Moments visit log offline If Moments shows “Visit log offline” or the activity calendar has no day counts, the visit log API on the gaming PC is unreachable. The site is fine—the inference host is not answering.
On the gaming PC: pull the latest owlcam repo and restart the animal identifier service (scheduled task or uvicorn). Confirm the PC is on Tailscale and that deploy.env ANIMAL_ID_API_ORIGIN matches that host. Run make pi-deploy after changing the origin.

Picture capture
Periodic stills from the nest RTSP feed for visit identification on the gaming PC. Turning this off stops new grabs; the live stream is unchanged.

IR illuminator
Short motion-triggered bursts at night. GPIO drives the MOSFET; the board photoresistor still gates emission in daylight.
GPIO & nest hardware
Raspberry Pi 4 Thirteen positions on the GPIO header carry power, ground, I²C, I²S, and the IR drive. CSI camera and USB peripherals use other ports on the Pi.
13 header pins in use — highlighted cells match the list below. GPIO 23 glows when the IR drive is high.
BME280 — nest climate
Pins: 1, 3, 5, 6Temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure on /diagnostics and the Pi vitals history.
INMP441 — nest microphone
Pins: 1, 6, 12, 35, 38I²S audio muxed into the live HLS stream (GPIO 18 / 19 / 20).
IR illuminator power
Pins: 2, 205 V into LM2596 buck (3.0 V) to the IR LED board through the MOSFET load terminals.
IRF520 + GPIO drive
Pins: 6, 9, 14, 16, 39Ground references and GPIO 23 to MOSFET SIG; owlcam-ir pulses the light at night.
IMX708 camera (CSI)
Pins: CSI portPrimary /owl video — not on the 40-pin header.
USB camera
Pins: USB portSecondary /owl2 angle — not on the 40-pin header.
Pin13.3 V
3.3 V
INMP441 VDD · BME280 VCC 3.3 V sensor rail. Powers the I²S microphone and the climate chip; do not feed 5 V to these parts.
Pin25 V
5 V
LM2596 buck IN+ Pi 5 V feeds the buck converter that steps down to 3.0 V for the IR illuminator load through the MOSFET.
Pin3GPIO2
SDA
BME280 I²C data for nest air temperature, humidity, and pressure on /diagnostics and the vitals history file.
Pin5GPIO3
SCL
BME280 I²C clock paired with GPIO2. Keep leads short inside the box to reduce noise on the bus.
Pin6GND
GND
Mic · BME · common Primary ground return for the microphone (including L/R strap) and the BME280.
Pin9GND
GND
Ground strap Extra ground tie in the harness for a solid reference between nest-box boards and the Pi.
Pin12GPIO18
PCM_CLK
INMP441 SCK I²S bit clock for nest audio muxed into the live HLS feed (overlay maps GPIO18 to PCM_CLK).
Pin14GND
GND
IRF520 module GND Logic ground for the MOSFET driver board that switches the IR illuminator.
Pin16GPIO23
OUT
IRF520 SIG → IR load Software-driven high turns the MOSFET on (owlcam-ir). Short night bursts; 60 s thermal cap in firmware.
Pin20GND
GND
LM2596 IN− Return for the buck converter input; pairs with pin 2 for the IR power path.
Pin35GPIO19
PCM_FS
INMP441 WS I²S left/right clock (GPIO19 / PCM_FS) for mono nest audio.
Pin38GPIO20
PCM_DIN
INMP441 SD I²S serial data from the mic into the Pi (GPIO20 / PCM_DIN).
Pin39GND
GND
Harness return Additional ground at the far end of the header for the field wiring bundle.
CSI-2IMX708 Camera Module 3
→
Primary nest video: 1080p H.264 into MediaMTX path /owl. Not a GPIO pin.
USBUVC camera (owl2)
→
Second angle on /owl2 via ffmpeg; uses the USB bus, not the 40-pin header.
